From the beginning of the 1980s efforts were made to provide the standard buses of the first generation with an equally standardized successor. At Mercedes, these were the models O 405 (city bus) and O 407 (intercity bus)
The O 407 was equipped as a suburban bus standard with external swing doors, of which the front was just simply wide. In addition, thanks to the raised floor, a trunk was available.
The first series of construction of the model, built from 1987 to 2001, is characterized by semi-glazed doors and a brown interior. The engine was the initially not charged OM 447h with 240 hp used.
