In 1992, the BVG procured articulated buses from West German manufacturers for the first time, including 25 MAN NG272 vehicles, designated as GN92 by the BVG. These cars have for the first time a 100% low-floor front end, which can be seen from the outside on the pulled-down window line. Contrary to the trend towards single-shell seats, the GN92s were equipped with classic benches, just as they were installed in the MAN standard bus of the 1st generation. As a result, the MAN GN92 offer unusually high seating comfort. To optimally utilize the power of the turbocharged 6.8-liter engine, the cars have a Voith four-speed gearbox and a very short axle ratio for the first time. Analogous to the D92, the GN92 were equipped with stop displays and electronic ticket printers right from the start.
