Vehicle Description
Hamburg's first low-floor articulated bus went in August 1992 at the elevated railway (HHA) in the line use. Previously, a bus was already internally tested. On 6.8. At the main station, a public presentation was held, which was intended to illustrate the advantages of low-floor technology compared to high-floor vehicles.
The 71er series included 47 identical vehicles with the numbers 7101 to 7147. One selected the number 71xx, since the 72er numbers were still assigned to 1982er Busse. The last 11 cars of this series were partially delivered in snow white or with other car numbers and later adapted.
All buses were equipped with 5-speed automatic (short translation), ABS, ASR, electric ramp, lowering device, tachometer, flip-dot matrix display (front & right complete, rear only line no.), Ignition, brown interior, green seat cushions, automatic Door control center and rear and TIM ticket printer.
In addition, the car had the already known from the previous models Knickwinkel-
Control, developed by Fahrzeugwerkstätten Falkenried.
The vehicles were powered by a rear engine, which acted just like the 12m bus with a short drive shaft on the rearmost axle. This design is called Schubgelenkbus. The engine was the same design as in the 1992-1994er solo busses (Euro 1), but slightly more powerful with 250 hp.
This series was also known by numerous eye-catching advertising paintings, which were almost all implemented for OMSI. There were hardly any commercials, but mainly full pictures.
At the turn of the millennium electronic ticket printers (EFAD), later with digital radio and GPS stop detection, as well as a two-line stop display in the front end were retrofitted.
The HHA ordered in 1993, another 28 articulated buses, while the other Hamburg transport companies were long time until the withdrawal only the old high-floor buses in use. The 93er (= 73er) series is also represented here and differs only by additional side indicators on the front axle and new roof hatches due to changes in safety regulations.
For the 2006 World Cup in Germany, not only the city of Hamburg upgraded, but also the HHA. There were u.a. built new upholstery and equipped a test car with LCD displays for advertising and line maps in the interior.
Until 2009, all buses were taken out of service and sold to German or Eastern European transport companies. As a result, the 92/93 articulated buses of the HHA achieved an above-average service life of up to 17 years.
