In 1972, on the initiative of the two major German regional bus companies Deutsche Bundesbahn and Deutsche Bundespost, the standard first-generation intercity bus (STÜLB) was developed as a counterpart to the VÖV standard bus. In addition to other manufacturers, Daimler-Benz built a model according to this specifications, the O 307. From 1973 to 1987, the German Federal Railways procured this bus type
The construction series DB 7-2xx was put into service at the Deutsche Bundespost in 1982 and integrated into its portfolio as part of the takeover of the Bundespost service by the Deutsche Bundesbahn. The original paint and post-typical interior design have been preserved.
